Pastoral and Liturgical Youth Group (P.L.Y.G.)

The Pastoral & Liturgical Youth Group is an established youth group forming part of the Qormi St Sebastian parish with the aim to empower youth to be creative and strengthen their character through Christian values.

The youth group is currently regularly attended by approximately 90 youth, the majority of whom are between thirteen and twenty-two years of age. The youth form three groups according to their age group and meetings are held once every week.  Every weekly meeting is a formative activity on various subjects related to the youth’ interests and through appropriate modern means and approach spiritual and liturgical themes are discussed.

The youth are also directly involved in the organisation of local and national pastoral events, and are also committed to organising social events for other youth and for the local community.  The PLYG is responsible for the animation of the Eucharistic celebration (twice every month) at the St Sebastian Parish Church, during which the youth organise themselves in a choir and are also involved in the setting up and dramatisation of a role play related to the liturgical reading of the day.

The PLYG also organize an annual 2-day sport marathon during which the group raises funds for the newly built Pastoral Centre, and are involved in the running of the parish’s summer school orgaised for young children (under direct supervision of the summer school co-ordinator).  Other activities directly addressed to youth include annual live-ins and seminars.
